Wayne County is the most likely place to be arrested for drunk driving in Michigan – and Oakland County comes in second, according to a new survey.
That is not surprising, given that these are the state’s two most populous counties, with more than 3 million combined residents.
What is surprising is that the arrest totals in Wayne and Oakland counties are more than 10 times the statewide average.
There were approximately 5,200 alcohol and drug-related arrests in Wayne County in 2012, according to the 2012 Michigan Annual Drunk Driving Audit. Not far behind was Oakland County, with close to 4,800 arrests.
The average county had only 448 alcohol and drug-related arrests.
The 2012 Michigan Drunk Driving Audit was released July 1. It contains detailed information on traffic fatalities, injuries, and arrest activities for alcohol and drug-related crashes.
Approximately 36 percent of all fatal Michigan crashes are alcohol or drug-related.
