St. Clair Shores, Michigan claims 14 square miles of picturesque Macomb County, along the western shores of Lake Saint Clair.  The community was named in honor of Lake Saint Clair, which despite its relatively small size, remains part of the Great Lakes system.  St. Clair Shores' proximity to this 430 square mile lake aided in the quick transformation of the area from a small resort town to a suburban city once World War II ended.

In 1951, prior to the incorporation of St. Clair Shores, MI, the community ranked as the nation's largest village.  At the time of the 2000 Census, St. Clair Shores reported a population of 63,096.  Macomb County took its name in honor of General Alexander Macomb.  Historic Macomb County, MI covers 482 square miles and is home to 788,149 individuals.  Macomb County remains one of the three counties comprising the massive metropolitan area of Detroit.

St. Clair Shores, MI lies within Detroit's metro area, just 13 miles northeast of downtown Detroit.  Located within the prestigious Automation Alley, St. Clair Shores residents have access to a selection of industrial careers and business opportunities.  Macomb County, known as a regional leader in business and industry, earned the honorable designation as a "Community of Economic Excellence" by the State of Michigan.

St. Clair Shores, Michigan has three public school districts that provide education to the majority of its younger residents.  These include Lakeview Public Schools, Lake Shore Public Schools, and South Lake Schools.  There are also several private schools including St. Germaine, St. Isaac Jogues, and St. Joan of ArcMacomb Community College is the only higher learning facility in the immediate area.

The St. Clair Shores community has an impressive selection of cultural and recreational sites and events.  There are activities and festivities related to the local apple crops, while camping, hiking, and hunting are easily available ways to enjoy the great outdoors.  Located in the heart of the Great Lakes region, Lake St. Clair ranks among the nation's top recreational boating destinations.  This nearly circular body of water spans 26 miles and provides the ideal setting for a family picnic or a day of fishing.

Renowned for its affiliation with hockey, St Clair Shores, Michigan holds the distinction of the most state championships in Michigan.  During the 1970's, high school hockey in St. Clair Shores dominated the competition, once earning the city the nickname of "Hockeytown".  St. Clair Shores also has a distinct connection to the historic music scene in Detroit, found in notable establishments such as Car City Records and the Crows Nest East.
